The following resources will assist education support staff, such as teacher aides, teaching assistants, and learning support officers, develop the skills and knowledge needed to support students with additional needs and disability.
Additional needs refer to support that is in addition to that provided to children of a similar age or year level. Students with additional needs require specific and/or targeted support to participate in their learning on the same basis as their peers.
Disability at school refers to students who have been identified as having an impairment that limits their ability to fully participate in school. Disability includes autism spectrum disorder (ASD), hearing impairment, intellectual impairment, physical impairment, speech-language impairment and visual impairment, learning disabilities and health conditions.
Support for students with disability ensures that students are able to access and participate in education on the same basis as students without disability.
