Welcome to the October edition of TA Talk.
This month, there is much reason for celebration as 30th October marks ATA's birthday!
We can barely believe 6 years have passed since we launched our online website at a forum for teacher aides at the Mooloolaba campus of TAFE Queensland. We have shared with you our most significant milestones and achievements in our special birthday blog post.
As part of our birthday celebrations, we ran 2 competitions which were fiercely contested! Today, we are excited to announce our winners and you can read the creative entries below.
We are also making one of our most popular member resources, Essential Behaviour Support Skills for Schools Part 1: Prevention, freely available during the month of November.
We are nearly at the end of our webinar calendar for 2021 and we hope you will be able to join us for our last event of the year, part 3 of our Supporting Gifted and Talented series.
Next year's webinars are almost finalised, and to help you plan your professional learning for 2022, we will be publishing our exciting line-up of presenters before the end of the school year.
It is wonderful to hear that most students are transitioning back to school and resuming face to face learning. We appreciate what an incredibly busy start of term it has been for many. Fortunately, an opportunity for an extended break is not too far away.
We are off to blow out the candles on our birthday cake! We'll make a wish for you, too. Take care, always :)
Warm regards
The ATA Team
It's our 6th Birthday! How we got to here!
Once adults reach a certain age, we don’t get too excited by birthdays, but for ATA it is the opposite, as for us, each year is a celebration that we are doing things right!
We have come a long way since our launch in October 2015, and for us, turning 6 is quite an achievement.

Supporting Gifted and Talented Learners Part 3 - A Whole School Approach
Tuesday 9th November 2021 @ 3:30pm AEST
Julia Bailey, principal at Rocklea State School, maintains that curriculum provision for gifted learners is everybody’s business.
In this interactive session, Julia will outline the key features of an authentic whole school approach towards provisioning for gifted learners, and encourage schools to consider ‘What are the great things we are doing….and what can we improve upon?’
This webinar is suitable for school leaders and educators working with students of any age.
Reminder: our live events are advertised in AEST
Supporting Gifted & Talented Learners Part 2 - Giftedness 101
Julia Bailey, principal at Rocklea State School, has a passion for supporting educators and parents of high-ability, underachieving and disengaged learners.
In this webinar, Julia delves deeper into the definition of giftedness, and the importance of having a shared understanding (and shared language) in your setting to ensure giftedness in learners is known, noticed and provisioned for.

6th BIRTHDAY COMPETITION WINNERS
We asked our members to tell us in 50 words or less what they most love about being an ATA Member. We received some truly delightful entries and had trouble choosing just 6! But here they are:
Happy Birthday ATA!!! At Dakabin High, we use ATA for PD opportunities and our staff enjoy participating. The information is evidenced and really engages our staff. It is a fabulous resource for our school, and we are very grateful to have the support.
- Mel, QLD
As a new member, I love the resources and support available. The portal is intuitive, and the website is very professional. It is empowering to have the value of Learning Support Assistants reinforced as an integral part of the education team providing the best possible outcomes for students.
- Kellie, ACT
I love ATA because it is full of AWESOME PD and webinars that are relevant to TAs. Love being able to go back and re-watch webinars when I haven’t been able to get to the live event. Best membership out there for TA’s by far! Great value for money.
- Kylie, VIC
I love all the different areas of professional development. Working in a support unit I tend to gravitate towards behaviour but I'm really enjoying all the different choices. I find the website very easy to navigate and having all the completed activities dated in the CPD diary makes it easy.
- Karen, NSW
What I love about being an ATA member is being able to access relevant courses whenever I want. The courses are all aimed at developing strategies and skills or reinforcing ideas to help me support students. They have given me confidence to take an active role within the classroom.
- Kerrie, NSW
ATA has brought us out of the dark ages so …
Thank you for bringing light to shine on our darkness!
Advancing our professionalism and helping us collaborate and grow together … we appreciate everything you do!
- Helen, QLD
Congratulations all! We will be in touch soon with instructions on how to claim your free ATA Polo Shirt.
Thank you to everyone who entered our school membership giveaway competition a few weeks ago. There were many and varied reasons, that schools put forward as a compelling case for membership. Congratulations to Landsborough State School who wrote the winning entry below:
Congratulations ATA! Landsborough State School would love to be a member of ATA to gain access to the eTAPS resources specifically. This will work towards strengthening our current focus of a team collaboration approach within our school to improve outcomes. Happy Birthday!
Effective Teacher Aide Practices for Schools (eTAPS) promotes improved collaboration and is based on contemporary learning theory and international research. eTAPS is a 'school only' resource and is highly sought after by school leaders who, like us, want to empower their educators to help students succeed.
