Welcome to the April edition of TA Talk.
It's awards time!
Today we are excited to announce that nominations for the 2021 Australian Teacher Aide of the Year Awards are now open.
The awards are an opportunity to recognise the outstanding work of teacher aides in schools. This year, by popular request, we have also added a new award for School Teams.
Last year, we received over 140 nominations from State, Catholic and Independent Schools across Australia. Taryn Riles from Boorowa Central School in NSW was named Australian Teacher Aide of the Year, and each of the State Finalists, and Highly Commended nominees were also recognised for their outstanding contributions to education.
The purpose of the awards is to raise awareness of the important contribution teacher aides make to student learning and wellbeing, and showcase the many ways teacher aides provide support to students, colleagues, and the wider community.
Australian Teacher Aide is proud to sponsor this annual event, now in its fourth year, and we encourage your school to nominate a teacher aide or team before the closing date, 16th July.
Warm regards
Mandy and Stella

HAS YOUR SCHOOL HAD AN ORIENTATION WITH ATA YET?
Orientation is a really important part of the new school onboarding process. Here's what Jen Croker, Head of Enrichment and Learning Support at Marist College Canberra, said about her orientation experience recently:
"I just wanted to thank you for the session you ran with my staff this morning to show us around the Australian Teacher Aide Membership portal and website.
There are so many professional learning opportunities available and I know we will use the PD Planner tool effectively to plan out where our strategic goals for our Assistants lie, but also for the teachers of the Learning Support team to get involved. We also really like that we can keep track of learning and certificates through the website.
We were so impressed by your clarity, ability to stick to the time and friendly approachable responses to questions. I know the feedback from the team has already been positive, so we look forward to continuing to work with you as we explore the resources available."
If you have not had an orientation yet, use the link below to make a time to meet with us.

Well! We had many and varied responses to this question including police officer, flight attendant, vet, jazz musician, archeologist and astronaut! Not surprisingly, many of you also wanted to be educators.
Rachel said, 'Teacher aide...and funnily enough, after 25 years in various careers, I actually got around to it!'
